
The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has elected Oluyinka Onigbinde, Assistant Editor of Shipping Position Daily, as its new President following a highly competitive and well-attended elective congress.
Onigbinde secured 20 votes to defeat seasoned maritime journalist Reverend John Iwori, who garnered 13 votes, emerging winner by a margin of seven votes in an election that drew strong participation from members across the association.
The congress also produced a new team of executives to steer the affairs of MARAN for the next administration:
• Vice President:*l Obasi Sylvanus (unopposed)
• General Secretary: Fabian Anawo
• Assistant General Secretary: Ojelabi Amina
• Public Relations Officer (PRO): Ayanfeoluwa Providence
• Treasurer: Ruth Umuna
• Financial Secretary: Ambrose Okehi (unopposed)
The newly elected leadership is expected to strengthen professionalism, deepen stakeholder engagement, and further promote the welfare and unity of maritime journalists under the association.
