In a strategic move set to transform Nigeria’s trade operations, the Dala Inland Dry Port (DIDP) has formed a strategic alliance with the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF).This alliance was announced on Friday 20th July 2024. This partnership aims to significantly enhance the operational efficiency and business growth of both organizations.
Declared an Inland Dry Port by the Federal Government in August 2022, the DIDP has faced challenges, particularly regarding recognition by the Nigerian Customs Service. Currently operating at minimal capacity, the port is awaiting critical approvals to expand its operations.
Abubakar Sahabo Bawuro, Chairman of DIDP, highlighted the importance of this collaboration during a recent 3-day working visit. Bawuro emphasized that NAGAFF’s industry expertise and connections are crucial for accelerating business volume and streamlining port operations.
He called for comprehensive support from NAGAFF members, freight forwarders, importers, exporters, and consolidators to unlock the port’s full potential.
Bawuro also stressed the need for official recognition of the DIDP as both a Port of Origin and Final Destination, advocating for the establishment of a command center to enhance operational efficiency.
“We need official recognition of the DIDP as both a Port of Origin and Final Destination,” Bawuro stated. “Establishing a command center within the port is crucial for efficient operations. The cooperation from all stakeholders will be instrumental in unlocking the port’s potential.”
In response, Chief Patrick Ogbo, Chairman of NAGAFF’s Technical Group on Cargo Logistics, pledged NAGAFF’s commitment to the partnership. He assured that NAGAFF would engage with key stakeholders to address the port’s challenges and maximize its potential.
“NAGAFF is committed to realizing the full potential of the DIDP within the specified timeframe,” Ogbo said. “The port’s massive size and well-equipped facilities are commendable, and we are excited to work together to maximize its capabilities.”
Both organizations view this partnership as a significant step forward. If successful, it is expected to not only benefit the Dala Inland Dry Port and the broader trade community but also set a precedent for similar ventures across Nigeria’s logistics sector.
