The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Seme Area Command has launched an investigation into an incident captured in a viral video showing officers allegedly maltreating members of the public.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Hussaini Abdullahi, disclosed that the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Kayode Kolade, condemned the officers’ actions, emphasizing that such behavior contradicts the core values and operational standards of the NCS.
“The Customs Area Controller has expressed the Command’s deepest empathy for the affected individuals and has ordered the withdrawal of the implicated officers. They will be interrogated as part of the disciplinary process to ensure accountability,” the statement said.
Comptroller Kolade also assured the public that the findings of the investigative panel would be transparently disclosed upon conclusion.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive environment for legitimate trade along the Lagos-Abidjan Corridor.
“We urge stakeholders and the public to continue their lawful activities with confidence in our dedication to fostering ethical practices and ensuring justice,” the CAC added.
