Maritime industry stakeholders, led by former National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and Chairman of Skelas Group, Prince Olayiwola Shittu, will gather in Lagos on Thursday to celebrate the achievements of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR.
The award dinner, organized by Nigerian Maritime Journalists, will take place at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, at 6 p.m. and is expected to attract key figures from the maritime sector, including government agency CEOs, freight forwarders, ship owners, terminal operators, and regulators.
Adeniyi will be honored as the “Iconic Maritime Personality of the Year 2024” in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the industry. Under his leadership, the Customs Service has recorded unprecedented revenue collection, strengthened anti-smuggling measures, improved trade facilitation, enhanced national security, and prioritized staff welfare.
His efforts in fostering inter-agency collaboration, upgrading infrastructure, advancing ICT adoption, and supporting corporate social responsibility initiatives have also been widely acknowledged.
The decision to honor Adeniyi was a unanimous one, made by journalists from across the maritime media landscape, including the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), League of Maritime Editors (LOME), Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON), and other industry press associations.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Adeniyi has been recognized for his consistent engagement with the media, particularly maritime journalists, in fostering transparency and information dissemination within the sector.
