The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has celebrated Superintendent of Customs, Nafisat Balogun, following her landmark achievement of earning a commercial multi-engine pilot licence in the United States.
The recognition ceremony, organised by the Nigeria Customs Technical Hangar Service, drew senior officers, management staff, and colleagues who gathered to honour Balogun for blazing a trail in a profession long dominated by men. Her accomplishment marks a historic first, as she becomes the NCS’s pioneer female pilot.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the Customs Technical Hangar Service, retired Comptroller of Customs and Captain, Kuhi Mbaya, described Balogun’s journey as both inspiring and transformational.
“Our officer, Nafisat Balogun, has transitioned from a cabin attendant to a certified commercial pilot. This is not just a personal milestone, but a proud moment for the entire Service,” he said.
Mbaya noted that her success reflects the growing opportunities within the NCS and underscores its commitment to inclusivity.
“For the first time, we have a female pilot in the Nigeria Customs Service. She has set a standard and created a pathway for others to follow. This is a milestone worth celebrating,” he added.

Encouraging more women to pursue their ambitions boldly, Mbaya stressed that the achievement signals the breaking of long-standing barriers.
“This clearly shows that there are no limits. The glass ceiling has been shattered, and with determination and focus, more women can realise their dreams,” he said.
He also commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for fostering a leadership culture that promotes gender inclusion and professional advancement.
In her remarks, Superintendent of Customs (Pilot) Nafisat Balogun expressed gratitude for the honour and the support she received throughout her journey.
“I am deeply honoured and humbled by this recognition. The journey has been challenging, but I am thankful for the encouragement, support, and confidence reposed in me,” she said.
She credited the leadership of the Service for making her achievement possible.

“I sincerely appreciate the Comptroller-General of Customs and the entire management team for their unwavering support. This milestone is a reflection of that encouragement,” she added.
Reaffirming her commitment to duty, Balogun pledged to uphold the highest standards of professionalism.
“I remain committed to serving with dedication, integrity, and excellence, and to making the Service proud,” she stated.
Colleagues at the ceremony lauded her resilience and determination, describing her achievement as a powerful source of inspiration, particularly for female officers aspiring to break into specialised fields within the Service. Her success, they noted, has broadened possibilities and set a new benchmark for excellence in the NCS.
