The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, has issued a renewed call for enhanced discipline, operational efficiency, and professional conduct as the Command intensifies efforts to boost revenue and combat smuggling.
Speaking at the Command’s monthly parade on Tuesday, 12 May 2026, at the Apapa Command Headquarters in Lagos, Comptroller Oshoba charged officers to block revenue leakages and strengthen enforcement across all terminals.
“We must protect the reputation of the Service at all times. Any delay by any officer on any duly-processed consignment will not be tolerated, even at the gates. If an exit has been granted, there must be no obstruction,” he declared.
Reaffirming the Service’s commitment to seamless trade facilitation, Oshoba urged officers to be more responsive and stakeholder-oriented.
“You must make yourselves accessible to our stakeholders. We must avoid actions capable of tarnishing the good image of the Service or undermining the efforts of the CGC and his management. We cannot afford to be seen as slugs in the wheels of progress,” he said.
The CAC also emphasized the need for vigilance against smuggling activities, especially illicit drugs and prohibited items, while cautioning officers against misconduct and improper dressing.
A highlight of the parade was the recognition of exemplary officers and outstanding units.
Assistant Comptroller Ismail Mohammed received the Most Outstanding Officer of the Month Award, while CSC Augustine Ondoma, ASCI Bukola Olaleye, and IC Olalekan Salawu were recognized for professionalism, innovation, and punctuality respectively.
Units were also honored for exceptional performance: officers at APM Terminal earned the Excellence Award in Enforcement, while officers at ECO SUPPORT Terminal received the Excellence Award in Revenue Generation.
Highlighting the importance of rewarding excellence, Comptroller Oshoba stated:
“This award initiative is designed to encourage hard work, professionalism and healthy competition among officers and units of the Command. Excellence must be seen, recognized, and rewarded,” Oshoba said.
