Allegation of Extortion Rocks Nigeria Customs Service: Officer Handed Over for Investigation

In a shocking turn of events, an officer from the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘B’ is alleged to have extorted the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000.00) from a car buyer along the Mokwa-Jebba Road in Niger State.

Comptroller Dalha Wada Chedi, addressing the media at the Unit’s headquarters in Kaduna, confirmed the incident and expressed the Service’s commitment to addressing the matter with utmost seriousness.

The suspected officer, a member of the Mokwa Patrol Team, was handed over to the Assistant Provost Marshal (APM) Customs Police Unit in Kaduna for discreet investigation. Comptroller Chedi emphasized that the Customs Police Unit in the Zone swiftly acted upon hearing the complaint, apprehending the officer and initiating the necessary disciplinary procedures.

“The Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR and his Management team frowned at such unruly behavior,” stated Comptroller Chedi, highlighting the Service’s dedication to maintaining discipline within its ranks.

He assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that the findings will be transmitted to the Nigeria Customs Service Board for further action.

“The Service is very pragmatic and practical in disciplinary cases, and this one will not be an exception,” added Chedi.

He urged the public not to lose faith and promised transparency in handling the matter, emphasizing that the outcome of the investigation would be made public to serve as a deterrent.

The Comptroller has assured their commitment to updating the general public as the investigation progresses. He thanked the public for their understanding and support, urging them not to relent in providing invaluable assistance.
