The Tin Can Island Port Command, under the leadership of Comptroller Dera A. Nnadi MNI, has reported a remarkable 139% revenue surplus for the first quarter of 2024.

In a recent meeting with Deputy and Assistant Comptrollers, as well as Unit Heads, Comptroller Nnadi commended the officers and men of the command for their dedication to service delivery and teamwork, which led to this outstanding achievement.

The Command recorded a total revenue collection of ₦303,937,547,265.47 in Q1 2024, compared to ₦126,858,189,231.31 in the same period in 2023. This impressive performance reflects an upscale in revenue generation across the months of January, February, and March 2024.

In January 2024, the Command collected ₦88,430,126,122.72, marking a 107.9% increase from the same period in 2023. February 2024 saw a revenue collection of ₦100,399,354,887.71, a 141.8% surge from 2023. March 2024 recorded the highest increase, with revenue totaling ₦115,108,066,256.20, representing a remarkable 163.9% growth compared to March 2023.

The Command’s Enforcement and Anti-Smuggling Unit has been actively combatting smuggling and criminal activities. Notably, the unit coordinated several physical examinations resulting in the seizure of illicit drugs with significant street values. These seized items have been handed over to relevant sister agencies as per service directives.

Stakeholder engagement has been a priority for the Tin Can Island Port Command, with various forums held to enhance communication channels and minimize revenue loss. Additionally, efforts have been made to establish new terminals to decongest the ports and create a level playing field for importers and stakeholders.

Export trade has also seen exponential growth, with a significant increase in both volume and value. The Command reported a 95.3% increase in exported tonnage and over a 300% increase in the FOB value of exports compared to Q1 2023. Agricultural and allied products, including Cocoa-Butter, Cocoa Beans, and Cashew Nuts, were among the commodities exported.

Comptroller Nnadi expressed gratitude for the support and guidance from the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, and his management team.
