Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, Chairman of SIFAX Group, has reaffirmed his commitment to education and community development by donating a fully equipped building to his alma mater, Baptist Grammar School, Idi-Ishin, Ibadan. The state-of-the-art facility, officially commissioned on Thursday, September 14, 2024, includes a mini-conference room, staff toilets, a Home Economics laboratory, and accommodation for corps members posted to the school.
The ceremony, held at the school premises, was attended by members of the Baptist Grammar School Idi-Ishin Old Students Association (BAGOSA), staff, students, representatives from the Oyo State Ministry of Education, and a delegation from SIFAX Group.
Representing Dr. Afolabi, Mrs. Wunmi Eniola-Jegede, Group Coordinating Director of SIFAX Group, highlighted the significance of the project.
“Education is the bedrock of any prosperous society. A conducive learning environment is not a luxury; it is a necessity. This facility will serve as a space where students can dream big, build confidence, and aspire for a brighter future. My commitment to this project is about hope and impact, ensuring no child feels limited by their circumstances,” she said.
The school principal, Mr. Eyitayo Alade Bamidele, expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Afolabi and SIFAX Group, describing the building as a “utility building” that meets multiple needs. He praised Dr. Afolabi’s swift response when the proposal was made, saying,
“When I proposed the idea to him, he welcomed it immediately and began funding the project without hesitation.”
Mrs. Jaiyeola Lewis, President of BAGOSA, also commended the initiative and encouraged other alumni to contribute towards improving the school’s infrastructure. “Government efforts are commendable, but they cannot do it alone,” she stated.
The newly commissioned building is already operational and is expected to significantly enhance the school’s capacity to provide quality education. The project aligns with SIFAX Group’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable community impact.
This donation not only underscores Dr. Afolabi’s dedication to education but also sets a benchmark for alumni-driven development in Nigerian schools.
