The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, has issued a public warning regarding the proliferation of unauthorized social media accounts falsely attributed to him.

In a statement made via his verified X account (@MobereolaD), Dr. Mobereola emphasized that these fake accounts are neither affiliated with him nor endorsed by NIMASA. He urged the public to exercise caution and to only interact with official social media platforms of the Agency.

“Any entity claiming to represent NIMASA or any member of its Executive Management is entirely fraudulent,” the DG stated. He further disclaimed any responsibility for the actions of these impersonators and stressed that the Agency has not authorized any individual or group to act on its behalf.

Dr. Mobereola advised the public to remain vigilant and to verify the authenticity of any suspicious accounts or communications, in order to avoid falling victim to these scams. NIMASA has provided a contact email, info@nimasa.gov.ng, for reporting such incidents, and also recommended reaching out to the appropriate law enforcement agencies.

The DG also explicitly stated that NIMASA will not be held liable for any losses incurred by individuals who engage with these fraudulent accounts on platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, or through other online channels.

The Agency urges all to stay informed and to protect themselves against such cyber threats.
