Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) has awarded Capt. Anthony Onoharigho the prestigious ‘Friend of WiLAT’ recognition. The honour was presented at a ceremony held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the maritime industry.
Capt. Onoharigho’s career is marked by decades of dedication and leadership. His journey began at Sea Grammar School, Sapele, Delta State, before advancing to the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, where he obtained a diploma in Nautical Science.
He also holds a Master’s Marine Certificate and has extensive experience in vessel operations, including berthing crude oil tankers for major companies like Shell Petroleum and Chevron.
In addition to his long-standing maritime career, Onoharigho is the first Nigerian to establish a classification company, Mariner Nigeria Ltd., where he currently serves as Managing Director and African Representative.
The company provides critical services such as ship surveys, classification, and safety management for vessels, while representing several countries in ship registration, including Nigeria, Venezuela, and Tanzania.
Capt. Onoharigho’s contributions extend beyond business. He has played pivotal roles in various professional organizations, including serving as the past National President of the Nigeria Institute of Shipping and Vice President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Nigeria. He is also a member of several professional bodies in the UK and Nigeria.
In response to the honour, Capt. Onoharigho expressed his gratitude, stating, “I was so honoured by WiLAT and I deeply appreciate this award. Most times, when one is doing something, you don’t know that someone is watching. WiLAT has been monitoring my progress in the maritime industry, and I will work with them to achieve their goals in the industry.”
