The Omi Eko Project, a €410 million initiative aimed at revolutionising water transportation across Lagos State, has appointed seasoned communications strategist, Dr. Segun Alabi, as its new Head of Communications and Media.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday by the Project Coordinator and Special Adviser on Blue Economy to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, who described Dr. Alabi as a proven professional with a rich blend of experience spanning corporate affairs, public policy, and strategic communication.
“Dr. Alabi is a highly accomplished corporate affairs professional with diverse experience across Pay TV, financial services, real estate, business membership organisations, and the manufacturing sector,” Emmanuel said, expressing confidence in his ability to drive the project’s visibility and stakeholder engagement.
In his new role, Dr. Alabi will lead the development and implementation of communication strategies, oversee media relations, and champion public enlightenment around the Omi Eko Project’s vision, sustainability goals, and milestones.
Until his appointment, Dr. Alabi served as Assistant Director, Corporate Affairs and Communications at the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), where he managed the association’s public affairs, event organisation, corporate communications, and stakeholder engagement.
Recognised for his expertise in reputation management, government relations, policy advocacy, CSR initiatives, and digital communication strategies, Dr. Alabi is widely regarded as a consummate communication professional with a sharp understanding of information management for organisational advantage.
Reacting to the announcement, Dr. Alabi described the opportunity as both inspiring and demanding.
“I am excited to join the Omi Eko Project team. This opportunity is truly a dream come true. While the task ahead is enormous, it is certainly achievable,” he said.
Dr. Alabi holds a PhD in English from the University of Lagos, specialising in Language Use and Communication.
The Omi Eko Project, supported by the European Union and private sector partners, seeks to drastically reduce road congestion in Lagos by expanding and modernising water transport infrastructure.
The €410 million initiative is a key component of the state’s long-term strategy for sustainable, climate-resilient urban mobility.
