The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has taken significant steps to strengthen its structure and reposition itself ahead of the 2027 elections. At its 2025 Elective National Convention held on Tuesday night in Lagos, the party elected new national executives and ratified key decisions, including the expulsion of former presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and others.
The convention, which took place at RockView Hotel, Apapa, was attended by delegates, party officials at both national and state levels, as well as members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Working Committee (NWC).
Dr. Agbo Major emerged as the new National Chairman, alongside other newly elected officers:
– National Secretary – Mr. Oginni Olaposi
– Deputy National Chairman (South) – Chief Felix Chukwurah
– Deputy National Chairman (North) – Alhaji Babayo Muhammed
– National Treasurer – Mr. Adetoyese Omokanye
– National Publicity Secretary – Mr. Abdulrasaq Abdulsallam
– National Woman Leader – Hajia Aisha isha Kade
– National Youth Leader – Chief Edward Ofomona
– **National Organizing Secretary– Mrs. Omolara Johnson
Delegates at the convention moved and adopted six motions aimed at repositioning the party. One of the most notable resolutions was the **affirmation of the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Elder Buba Galadima, and others from the NNPP.
Additionally, a motion was passed granting automatic qualification for all NNPP members currently serving in State Houses of Assembly, the House of Representatives, and the Senate to contest in the 2027 general elections under the party’s platform.
The convention marked the culmination of a court-mandated restructuring of the party. An Abia State High Court ruling on November 1, 2024, directed the NNPP BoT, led by its Founder and Chairman, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, to reorganize the party from the ward level up to the national convention, The court also ordered INEC to recognize and work with the newly constituted party leadership
Speaking at the event, Dr. Aniebonam emphasized that the reconstitution process had been transparent and in compliance with the court’s directive.
“Today, the board shall conclude its assignment through the national convention to elect and establish a National Working Committee that will take charge of the administration and management of the party,” he said.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected National Chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, called for unity within the party, urging aggrieved members to return and contribute to its growth.
“The NWC under me is poised to deliver. We are committed to repositioning our party for 2027, and this we will do vigorously,” he declared.
NNPP’s National Secretary, Oginni Olaposi, in his vote of thanks, encouraged members to remain steadfast, assuring them that the party is stronger than ever and ready to play a more significant role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
The 54th NNPP National Convention, which commenced at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, concluded at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, setting the stage for a new chapter in the party’s journey.
