The Network of Nigerian Maritime Journalists (NNMJ) has extended warm felicitations to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as a transformational leader whose reforms have repositioned the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
In a statement issued on Monday, January 19, 2026, and jointly signed by its Chairman, Elder Dele Aderibigbe, and Secretary, Moses Ebosele, the Network commended Adeniyi for what it called a milestone marked by dedication, integrity, and exemplary service to the nation.
According to the NNMJ, Adeniyi’s leadership came at a crucial moment when the Service needed direction, noting that he “stood up to be counted” and has since steered the NCS from turbulence to an enviable position within the global customs community.
The group highlighted his rising influence at the World Customs Organisation (WCO), where he currently serves as Chairman, boosting Nigeria’s global standing.
The statement also described the CGC as a relentless reformer whose initiatives, particularly the indigenous B’odogwu intervention, have significantly enhanced operational efficiency and revenue generation for the federal government.
Quoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s earlier commendation of Adeniyi, the Network recalled that the President had lauded the Customs boss for strengthening community relations, consistently surpassing revenue targets, deepening trade partnerships, and bolstering national border security.
These achievements, the President noted, demonstrate “the value of reform-oriented leadership in strengthening economic resilience and safeguarding Nigeria’s borders.”
The NNMJ prayed for continued wisdom and divine strength for Adeniyi as he pilots the affairs of the Nigeria Customs Service.
