The Nigerian maritime sector is in mourning following the unexpected passing of Architect Ferdinand Agu, former Director General of the defunct National Maritime Authority (NMA) now NIMASA .

Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the current Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has expressed profound sorrow over the loss, describing it as a significant blow to Nigeria, the maritime community, and NIMASA in particular.

Dr. Mobereola, in a heartfelt statement this weekend, reflected on the brief yet impactful interactions he had with Agu, particularly during his first stakeholder engagement session just last month.

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Arc. Ferdinand Agu, a former Director General of NMA. He left an indelible impression on me within the short time we shared.

“I had hoped to engage him more often, to tap into his wealth of experience for the collective interest of every Nigerian. Alas, death has denied us this privilege,” Mobereola lamented.

Highlighting Agu’s enduring legacy, Mobereola praised his dedication and excellence, emphasizing the inspiration he provided to those within the maritime industry.

“Agu’s legacy of dedication and excellence will continue to inspire us all. We will miss his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering dedication to improving our maritime industry.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace,” he added.
