The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), the nation’s premier maritime journalism body, has lauded Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on the first anniversary of his appointment.

MARAN, in a statement by its President, Godfrey Bivbere, and Secretary, Babajide Okeowo, expressed their appreciation for Adeniyi’s commendable leadership and significant contributions to the Nigerian Customs Service.

Upon his appointment, the Customs Service was in dire need of a seasoned professional to navigate its affairs. According to MARAN, Adeniyi has not only met but exceeded these expectations.

The association highlighted his notable achievements in revenue generation, enhancing service efficiency, and fostering collaboration with other government agencies.

“Many stakeholders and Nigerians in general have been clamouring for a career service officer to be at the helms of affairs of the service and so Nigerians were relieved when the announcement was made that he has been appointed as the CG of Customs.

“Like the saying goes, to whom much is given, much is expected, there was a huge expectation from stakeholders and the public in general to see how well he will perform.

“The association is glad to know and see that CG Adeniyi has not disappointed, in fact, he has performed beyond expectation in repositioning the service for optimal performance and as a critical stakeholder and the fourth estate of the realm, we are super excited by his performance and as such, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to him” Bivbere stated.

On his part, Secretary of MARAN Babajide Okeowo praised Adeniyi’s collaborative approach with other agencies and for setting good precedent on what cooperation between government agencies should look like.

“One thing that has set CGC Adeniyi apart from his predecessors is his ability to foster collaboration with other sister agencies, hardly will a week pass without reading about one collaboration or the other which is a testament to his vast knowledge of the service and his level of acceptance” he said.

MARAN concluded by wishing Adeniyi continued success in his mission to reposition the Nigerian Customs Service for optimal performance. The association remains optimistic about the future under his leadership.
