The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Apapa Port Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, has reassured port users that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) will maintain uninterrupted operations at Apapa Port despite concerns over a potential nationwide protest.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Apapa on Tuesday, Comptroller Olomu emphasized the importance of rebuilding confidence among importers, exporters, licensed customs agents, freight forwarders, haulage operators, and other port users.

He assured that customs officers would continue to be available at the port and all terminals to facilitate legitimate trade.

“The customs officers attached to the command will remain available to discharge their functions and support trade activities within their purview,” Olomu stated.

He highlighted that the Customs Public Relations Office and other designated help desks would address inquiries and provide further details as needed.

Reaffirming the commitment of the customs officers, Comptroller Olomu reminded the Apapa Port Community, including sister government agencies, that officers would resume work at 8 am on weekdays and could work on weekends if necessary.

He expressed gratitude to compliant port users, referring to them as partners in progress, and emphasized the command’s dedication to maximizing government revenue collection without compromising the thorough examination of import and export cargo.

At the meeting, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Western Ports, CP Lanre Ishola, commended Comptroller Olomu for organizing the discussion and pledged that the police would ensure the protection of citizens’ rights.

Apapa Port Manager Mr. Charles Okaga reminded attendees that Apapa Port operates 24 hours a day. He stated that the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) would sensitize other stakeholders in the cargo clearing process, including shipping companies and terminal operators, to continue their services as usual.

Okaga added that  NPA would encourage these stakeholders not to impose demurrage on cargoes for days when services could not be rendered.
