The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has lifted the suspension earlier placed on Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, restoring all his rights and privileges as a full member of the party.
This decision followed the adoption of the report presented by a committee constituted to investigate the allegations levelled against the governor in 2025.
In a statement issued after an emergency meeting held Tuesday morning at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja, the National Working Committee (NWC), in consultation with the party’s Founder and Chairman, Board of Trustees, announced the reinstatement.
According to the statement, Governor Yusuf is to immediately resume his role as the National Leader of the NNPP, being the highest elected office holder on the party’s platform.
The NWC further charged him to deploy his renewed leadership mandate to strengthen the party, consolidate on its achievements, and provide effective direction as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The Founder, the NWC, and the entire membership of our great party congratulate Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his courage in speaking up against forces attempting to derail the progress we made in 2023,” the statement said.
Reiterating its earlier position, the NNPP leadership maintained that the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the Kwankwassiya group from the party remains valid. It also cautioned media practitioners against referring to Kwankwaso as the party’s national leader.
