Customs Boss Bashir Adeniyi Named 2024’s “Iconic Maritime Personality” by Maritime Media

All is set for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, to receive the prestigious “Iconic Maritime Personality of the Year 2024” award from the Nigerian Maritime Journalists (NMJ).

The recognition, unanimously agreed upon by journalists covering the maritime beat across print, electronic, and online media, highlights CG Adeniyi’s exceptional contributions to the maritime sector since his appointment.

The initiative is backed by leading associations, including the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), League of Maritime Editors (LOME), and Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON), among others. In their nomination letter, the Secretary of the Award Planning Committee, Innocent Orok, emphasized Adeniyi’s transformative impact on the Customs Service, citing achievements in revenue collection, anti-smuggling activities, trade facilitation, national security, and staff welfare.

“It is incontestable that your record-breaking performance has attracted both national and international laurels, showcasing your purposeful leadership,” the letter read.

Dele Aderibigbe, Chairman of the Award Planning Committee, described the honor as a milestone in the maritime industry. He noted that this is the first time all maritime journalists have united to recognize a single leader’s efforts.

“This award underscores how CG Adeniyi has redefined the role of the Nigeria Customs Service in revenue generation, international collaboration, and modernization,” Aderibigbe stated.

The award ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, starting at 6:00 PM. The event will bring together industry stakeholders, government officials, and media practitioners to celebrate CG Adeniyi’s achievements under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
