The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has been plunged into deep mourning following the death of one of its senior officials, Comrade Taofeek Dabiri, who until his passing served as Deputy President-General of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) branch.
In an official statement, the union’s President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, described Dabiri as a devoted unionist, a loyal colleague and a remarkable leader whose life embodied humility, discipline and respect for others.
Within the union, Dabiri was widely admired for his warmth, calm disposition and exceptional ability to build unity across diverse backgrounds. Colleagues recalled his gift for connecting with people irrespective of tribe, status or position, an attribute that earned him admiration throughout the maritime community.
Renowned for his impeccable conduct and strong moral values, the late union leader was often referred to as “a rare breed”, a man whose presence radiated positivity and whose composure and sense of style left lasting impressions on members and visitors alike.
An emotional Abi expressed profound sorrow as he paid tribute to his late deputy, noting that Dabiri was not only a trusted associate but a steadfast ally who never hesitated to answer the call of duty.
“He was a good man, honourable, dependable and deeply committed. His exemplary life will remain unforgettable, not just to me but to the entire union,” Abi said.
The MWUN leader added that Dabiri’s legacy of unity, service and dedication would continue to inspire the union for years to come.
He prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to grant him Aljannah and to comfort and protect the family he left behind.
