The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, on Thursday received the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, at the Ministry headquarters in Abuja, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to stronger security collaboration across Nigeria’s maritime domain.
Dr. Oyetola congratulated the Police Chief on his appointment, describing it as “a well-earned recognition of competence, professionalism and decades of exemplary service.”
“I warmly congratulate you on your appointment as Inspector-General of Police. Your track record of discipline and dedication inspires confidence that you will provide the quality leadership needed to strengthen our national security architecture,” Oyetola said.
IGP Disu expressed gratitude for the minister’s goodwill and pledged unwavering cooperation with ministries and agencies whose mandates influence national security, economic growth and public safety.
“We are committed to working closely with strategic sectors, especially the marine and blue economy space. The Nigeria Police Force will continue to support maritime security through intelligence-led operations, joint enforcement and strong institutional partnerships,” Disu stated.
Their discussions centred on expanding inter-agency cooperation between the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and the Nigeria Police Force, with emphasis on coordinated operations across coastal and inland waterways, improved surveillance and enhanced protection of maritime assets.
Dr. Oyetola described the engagement as timely, noting that synergy among security institutions remains crucial to achieving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s blue economy vision.
“The maritime sector holds enormous potential for diversification and job creation. But to unlock these opportunities, our waters must remain safe, orderly and secure. This demands seamless collaboration across all security and enforcement agencies,” he said.
In response, IGP Disu reaffirmed the Police Force’s readiness to deepen operational support for maritime safety initiatives, including patrols, intelligence gathering and enforcement against illegal activities on the waterways.
Both parties agreed to institutionalize regular strategic engagements to strengthen information-sharing, joint operations and response capabilities across Nigeria’s marine and coastal environment.
